Interesting, coverage I’ve seen so far have omitted the voluntary service charge split across workers (e.g. https://techcrunch.com/2016/09/22/instacart-raises-guaranteed-delivery-rates-removing-tipping-option/). The problem isn’t removing tipping, which creates a host of inequities and other social problems (http://reddit.com/r/EndTipping/wiki), it’s that they’ve kept it under a different name as you note in the title.
